Louis Shepherd I just thought we needed
to do something to show case all that was happening in community theatre.
So I hatched an idea. Nothing more complex than that. Here are
the statistics as best as I know. I understand that there is something
like 33 community theatre groups within the Perth metropolitan area. The majority of these
theatre groups put on five productions a year. On average, each play
runs over a three week season with each performance attracting well in
excess of 100 people. An average production could sell in excess
of 1 000 tickets at a typical cost of $15 each. The type of
theatre on offer ranges from serious drama to farce, from popular musicals
to locally written world premiers! I haven't even started talking about the
people whose creative talents are put to the test each week. From
actors to set builders, lighting experts, wardrobe assistants, directors,
crew, special effects technicians, production coordinators, ticket
sellers and bar managers, to name but a few. All of these people
turn up and work for hours in a voluntary capacity each and every month to
ensure that Perth audiences have one of the best (and cheapest)
nights out. Why shouldn't we talk about this? That's
THE GREEN ROOM - television about community
theatre! |
